Applicant must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED. They must pass a reading and math college entrance exam with a 75%. Applicant must pass a physical examination which may include an EKG, chest xray and TB test. All immunization records must be current including Hepititus B vaccination. By the time the class ends the applicant must be flexible in movement and be able to lift 50 pounds from a dead lift.
The course is 50 hours, the length of the course depends on the scheduled class times. The course schedule varies depending on the availablity of instructors.
The State of Arizona requires that you pass the State of Arizona Department of Health test with a passing grade of at least 75%. The State of Arizona also requires you to pass the National Registry test with a passing grade of 75% before issueing the EMT license for the first time.

The Buckeye Valley Fire District driving requirements are:

21 years of age
Pass the BVFD driving course
Signed off by a BVFD driving instructor
